This month’s photographer inspiration: Jessica Backhaus
In April, I am gaining inspiration from Jessica Backhaus. I discovered Jessica Backhaus’s work in the book titled “Women Photographers” by Boris Friedewald.
Jessica Backhaus is regarded as one of the most distinguished voices in contemporary photography in Germany today.
What struck me most about Jessica’s work is that she captures images of seemingly everyday objects that pique the viewers interest in the underlying story.
I have taken particular inspiration from the project titled “What Still Remains“. When I began this project, I had no idea that we’d all be in lockdown the entire month. I guessed this may be the case, but had no idea how the reality of this would feel. It was very tempting to take photos of people in their houses or empty streets but using Jessica as inspiration, I decided to do something that I have longed to do. This is to tell a story through my phototgraphy, one that’s not immediately obvious and hopefully tells the real story of my Lockdown here in the UK.
